Needles!

This morning, I had to do the hardest thing I have ever done. Ever. Levi had an appointment for a routine check-up and immunization. No problem, I thought. I've done this many times before. One of the tests was to ascertain whether or not he had lead poisoning. In order to do this, a small amount of blood had to be extracted from Levi's arm. Unfortunately, my baby is so fat that this was almost impossible. After sticking a needle in his arm and failing to draw out any blood, the nurse called for back-up. The second nurse then went for his other arm. No luck. She told me his "fat rolls" were too big. Next they call in a neo-natal nurse who dug around in his wrist for awhile. A looong while. My eyes were full of tears and it was all I could do not to break down. After she had finished, she called another neo-natal nurse in. Right before she too was about to give up, blood spurted forth. Levi screamed the entire time (nearly an hour) and all just to find out that he does not have lead in his system. Whoop-de-doo. I could have told you that. Poor baby then had to endure 3 more shots in his legs. He's bruised from head to toe but still smiling. Now THAT'S a good baby!
